Frequently Asked Questions

About OWN Your Pelvic Health

What makes OWN Your Pelvic Health different?

At OWN, we specialize exclusively in women’s pelvic health - pregnancy, postpartum, pelvic pain, sexual health, bladder/bowel concerns, and athletic performance. This is our passion and our expertise, and all we treat day in and day out.

We don’t just treat symptoms; we help you understand the why behind them. Our clinicians take a whole-body, whole-life approach that looks at how your habits, movement patterns, hormones, stress, core, and pelvic floor all interact.

Every session is one-on-one, hands-on, and individualized, because that’s the care we would want for our own family and friends.

How do I know I'm getting the best care?

Our mission is to provide gold-standard, trauma-informed pelvic health care for women throughout Denver.

  • We have countless 5-star reviews from clients who feel seen, supported, and transformed

  • Our therapists hold advanced, post-graduate training and specialize exclusively in pelvic health

  • People drive from across Colorado (and even out of state) to work with our team

  • OWN providers mentor students, teach workshops, provide continuing education, and speak at community and professional events.

Everyone on our team - from the client care coordinators, to the therapists, to the doulas - is wholeheartedly invested in pelvic health. This isn’t a side specialty. It’s what we do, all day, every day.

What sets OWN apart?

A few key things make OWN Your Pelvic Health a completely different experience:

Specialty care: Every clinician works exclusively in pelvic health and has advanced training in orthopedics, pregnancy/postpartum care, pain science, and pelvic rehab.

One-on-one, 60 or 120 minute sessions: You will never be passed to an aide, shuffled between providers, or rushed. You get dedicated time, attention, and individualized care every visit.

Whole-person approach: We look beyond the pelvic floor to assess the entire system: breath, core, hips, posture, stress, sleep, hormones, daily habits to address root causes and help symptoms stay gone. The pelvic floor operates in the whole system, and it’s rare to see results if a provider ONLY assesses or treats your pelvic floor.

Multidisciplinary support: Our building houses doulas, lactation consultants, infant physical therapy, pediatric pelvic therapy, mental health, holistic wellness, and more. Care under one roof = easier, more connected healing.

Can You Help?

Can you treat my specific concern?

Almost certainly, yes. If it involves your pelvis, core, bladder, bowel, sexual health, pregnancy, postpartum body, or athletic performance, we’ve seen it and we can help. We have never had someone come in with pelvic symptoms who didn’t benefit from treatment.

If you're unsure whether your concern fits, please call. You’ll speak with a real person who understands pelvic health and can guide you.

Your therapist will coordinate your care and refer you to trusted specialists (OBGYNs, urogynecology, mental health, nutrition, etc.) if additional support will help.

I’ve been to pelvic PT before. Can you still help?

Absolutely. Many of our clients have been to other clinics before finding us, including insurance-based PT clinics where visits were short, repetitive, or not individualized. Our approach is different as we have longer visits, deeper assessments, whole-body treatment, trauma-informed care, and advanced techniques. After a visit with us, we regularly hear things like, “that was a very different experience than I had before” or “I finally feel like someone actually listened and figured out what’s going on.”

Can’t I just do Kegels?

Nope… and for many people, Kegels actually make symptoms worse. Most pelvic floors need coordination, mobility, or relaxation before strengthening. And they don’t fix the underlying patterns contributing to symptoms. Your treatment will be customized based on your body, and it will be about far more than “just Kegels.”

Should I do pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy even if I don’t have symptoms?

Yes - and it can make a huge difference! Prenatal pelvic floor therapy isn’t just for people with pain, leaking, or discomfort. In fact, many of our pregnant clients come in proactively to prepare their bodies for birth and postpartum recovery. There are no guarantees, but the clients that complete our birth prep program overall report less tearing, shorter pushing phases, and faster recoveries. We focus on:

  • Birth preparation: Learn how to relax, lengthen, and coordinate your pelvic floor for pushing, reduce tearing risk, and feel confident going into labor.

  • Core + posture support: Pregnancy changes how you move and breathe, so we help you optimize mechanics early to prevent symptoms later.

  • Strengthening + mobility: Build a resilient body that supports your growing baby and decreasing discomfort in later trimesters.

  • Nervous system + stress support: Sessions help you regulate breath and tension, which directly affects pelvic floor function.

  • Preventative care: Many common pregnancy symptoms (SI pain, pubic symphysis pain, leaking, pressure) are easier to prevent than to treat once they’ve already started.

  • Postpartum preparation: We give you tools for early recovery, C-section support, bowel/bladder habits, and when/how to safely resume movement.

You don’t need to be in pain to benefit. Prenatal pelvic floor therapy is like building the foundation before the house starts shifting. It sets you up for a smoother pregnancy, a more supported birth, and a much easier postpartum healing process.

If you’re pregnant and curious, we’d love to support you… whether you’re feeling great or already noticing changes.

What is my first appointment like?

You’ll be welcomed into a warm, private treatment room where you can share your story without feeling rushed.

Your first visit includes:

  • A full conversation about your symptoms, history, and goals

  • A head-to-toe orthopedic + pelvic assessment

  • Treatment on day one (hands-on and movement-based)

  • Education you can actually understand

  • An internal pelvic floor exam only if you want one

  • A personalized plan for your healing

We know starting pelvic floor therapy can feel intimidating. We’ll guide you every step of the way and ensure you feel comfortable and empowered throughout.

Logistics

Will I see the same therapist each visit?

Yes. You will always work with the same clinician who knows your story, your goals, and your body. We don’t switch you between providers or double-book sessions.

Do I need a referral from my physician?

No referral needed. Colorado is a direct-access state, so you can schedule anytime. We can update your physician if you’d like them informed of your care.

Will I see an aide or student during my session?

Never. Our care is 100% one-on-one with your pelvic health specialist the entire session.

How long are appointments?

All of our appointments are 60 minutes for follow-ups. We have an option for 120 minute evaluation or treatment sessions for complex cases or out-of-town clients. Longer, unhurried sessions = better outcomes.

How long is your waitlist?

We work hard to get you seen quickly because waiting months for pelvic care isn’t acceptable. Depending on your flexibility, most clients schedule within 1–2 weeks, and often within the same week for urgent concerns.

Do you offer flexible appointment times?

Yes. We offer a range of morning and afternoon appointments to accommodate work, childcare, and life. If you need a consistent weekly time slot, we can book ahead to secure your preferred schedule.

Can I bring my baby/child?

Absolutely! Your child is more than welcome to join you in your treatment room. If you prefer to limit distractions, our client care team LOVES hanging out with little ones, and they’re happy to watch your baby/toddler/child during your session.

Where do I park?

We are located right on the corner of 38th and Xavier (across from Sprouts!) There is a small parking lot on the north side of our clinic where you’re welcome to park. If it’s full, street parking along Xavier is typically very open! Just be sure to check signs for street sweeping.

How do I get started?

Just reach out! Call, text, or fill out our online request form. Our client care team will answer your questions (real humans - never an answering service) and help you schedule your first visit. You don’t need a prescription, prior imaging, or any special preparation. We’ll take it from here.
